Secret alcoholic: find and neutralize

There is no such thing as “hidden” or “secret” alcoholism in medicine. But increasingly, psychologists and ordinary people use it in relation to people who abuse alcohol and, for various reasons, try to hide their addiction to strong drinks as much as possible. It is clear that nobody is better from this concealment. You will reveal it earlier, you will cure it faster … So, we are looking for and neutralizing it!

Who are the “hidden” alcoholics?
These people, as a rule, do not drink strong or diluted alcohol, such as coffee with cognac. Alcohol is administered in small doses, and more often throughout the day. In my defense, from the patient you can often hear – “I drink a little bit to be in good shape all day. Otherwise, I can’t work.”

Most often, this type of alcoholism occurs in women. This is a type of “female alcoholism.” Women drink alcohol, realizing that it is indecent for them to be drunk “in public.” But alcoholism is a disease that is characterized by an irresistible craving for alcohol and people with illness cannot independently give up alcohol.

Is self-medication possible for alcoholism?
Can alcoholism be cured forever?
How to recognize a “secret alcoholic”?
Most often, the behavior of a “secret alcoholic” is disinhibited. At the initial stages, he is usually excited, unreasonably cheerful, never refuses small, “random” doses of alcohol, after which he tries to “knock down” the smell (chocolates, coffee, cigarettes or chewing gum). Later, after taking “on the chest”, depending on individual traits, a person can become either withdrawn or aggressive. Or vice versa: easily vulnerable, tearful, talkative. And all this is caused by intoxication and asthenization of the body, the onset of manifestations of somatic diseases. And, of course, changes in the mental state.

“Latent alcoholism” is essentially a constant form of drunkenness. As a rule, people who can be called “hidden alcoholics”, in the medical sense, are at the stage of the formation of alcoholism. In most such cases, it is either a constant form of alcoholism, or the first or the beginning of the second stage of alcoholism.

What does “hidden alcoholism” lead to?

Constant alcoholic intoxication of the body, albeit in small doses, first leads to cognitive (behavioral) and mental disturbances on the part of the mental activity of the brain. Later, chronic somatic diseases begin to form: changes in the heart muscle, pathology of the liver, pancreas, stomach, genitourinary system. In short, the “hidden alcoholic” has everything, like a real alcoholic.

Against the background of chronic intoxication of the brain and the whole organism, diseases such as alcoholic epilepsy, alcoholic psychoses, alcoholic encephalopathy, gastric ulcer, myocardial infarction, cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes mellitus, pancreatitis, urolithiasis, impotence and other diseases can form.

But, latent alcoholism cannot always remain so. There comes a time when the disease goes to a higher level and binges begin, with the use of a large amount of alcohol. Such episodes, initially rare and one-day, become more frequent and their duration increases. To hide the presence of alcohol dependence is becoming more and more difficult. There comes a time when, as they say, “the secret becomes apparent.” At this point, alcoholism is already fully formed and, as a rule, the presence of a second, with a transition to the third, stage of alcohol dependence is already diagnosed.

Secret alcoholic: find and neutralize. Treatment of a patient with alcoholism. Female alcoholism, symptoms and treatment. Treatment of a patient with alcoholism. Can female alcoholism be cured forever? How can “hidden” alcoholism be treated?
There can be only one help – motivation for anti-alcohol treatment. Unfortunately, the prognosis in such situations is usually unfavorable. As a rule, it’s hard to convince such a person that he has alcoholism, since he always has the main argument – “I don’t get drunk and I don’t lie drunk. Just think, I drank a little. Who does it bother?” He lacks awareness of the severity of his own condition and situation.

If we talk about practical work with such patients, then a special approach and specific therapy are needed. The treatment of alcoholism requires a lot of stress on the part of not only one doctor, but the whole team, where doctors of various specialties should be represented.

In such situations, therapy gives positive results only if specific complex treatment of alcoholism is carried out, and relatives and close people unconditionally take the side of the doctor and, together with him, are conducting a targeted fight not with the person, but with his illness. All actions to cure alcoholism should be clearly planned and directed by the attending physician.
